Amigurumi Banned Book Library 2022

Sorry it took so long to complete these. I was a bit ambitious to try and complete a new one each day AND take care of the rest of my life 🙂 The first three books in my Amigurumi Library have been joined by Catcher in the Rye, Captain Underpants and The Color Purple. The Color Purple, by Alice Walker was the first book I read as a teenager where I knew it was banned by some schools and libraries. My parents sent me to a school where I was educated not programed, thank you. And thank you to the teachers who read it with me and others, not turning away for the violent or uncomfortable parts but finding needed meaning and understanding. Even as a young person I knew that the book was fiction, but that the experiences were real for many people, and it moved me deeply. After 20 years as a social work and child and family counselor I can only say that it may have been one of the things that set me on a path to listen to those who society would not hear, and advocate for the rights of those people. A healthy society does not ban books, it uses books to shed light on the issues that most need to be revealed. In order to address those issues, and make our world better for people as a whole not just some. Read banned books, and share the amigurumi joy. As always I would enjoy hearing any comments and please feel free to contact me.
