Amigurumi Christmas Pickle

Christmas Pickle Myth and Legend

Seriously this is amazing! My love history combined with my love of amigurumi? It doesn’t get any better. Someone mentioned that there was a German tradition of putting a pickle in the Christmas tree. One, everybody in my family LOVES pickes. Two, I have always wanted to crochet a pickle, and I was curious about this tradition. Some digging indicates maybe this is not a German tradition, but German-American. The story that pleases me most, so that’s what I’m going with, has to do with a Bavarian American solider named John C. Lower. He was enlisted in the 103rd Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War. Legend goes that as he lay starving in prison and John Lower requested a pickle from his prison guard. Later Lower would credit that pickle with saving his life. And so each Christmas he would hide a pickle shaped ornament in the tree, and the first person to find it would have good luck in the coming year. Awesome amigurumi pickle and lovely Christmas story.

Amigurumi Gnomes Are Home

It took me quite some time to land on the look, the pattern, it was a over a month. I finally hit on the pattern I liked, different from ones I had seen but similar.
