It is my pleasure to introduce Amigurumi Seahorse. This series has been such a pleasure, and I have wanted to complete it for so long. The perfect summer activity, a bit of the Ocean whether I’m in my kitchen or my backyard. Good times!

The series of Amigurumi virus and bacteria that we all love to hate is at an end for now (If you have others you would like to see please let me know). The germ for today is the hated bacteria Amigurumi Cholera. You don’t want this ugly jerk in your drinking water. Unfortunately according to the WHO they estimate between 1.3 and 4 million cases of cholera per year, with between 21,000 and 143,000 deaths. Meanwhile it is all treatable with safe drinking water and vaccines. Drink a glass of water and think how lucky you are to have access to both.
Although most people recover from Salmonella, it can lead to serious complications. The CDC estimates that there are up to 23,000 hospitalizations and 430 deaths per year due to this very common bacterial infection. So as the PSA says “Don’t let Salmonella get funky with your chicken.”

Below is my interpretation of Amigurumi Rhinovirus, otherwise known as the common cold. Though not deadly this problem has been with humanity since the beginning of recorded history and is the most common infection. It can lead to sever complications such as otitis media and other long term consequences. In particular for those who lack proper health care and resources.

Amigurumi Typhoid, another in the series of germs we love to hate. Typhoid fever is now a more rare disease in the United States, however it can have life threatening consequences. And according to the World Health Organization 11-20 million people get sick with it and between 120,000-160,000 people die from it world wide every year.

Today the Purple Pygmy Octopus, Blue Jellyfish and Green Sea Anemone were joined by a Red Sea Star and an Orange Rili Shrimp. Tomorrow will include additions to the “Germs We Love to Hate” collection.

And of course next up is the germ we all currently love to hate. Below is an Amigurumi representation of the virus that causes Covid-19. I should say having a physical representation of the virus causing this Pandemic has been very cathartic. I yelled at it, threw it across the room, and then put it in isolation (Ha take that you big dummy!) Then I did the only thing that will “kill” a virus, since it isn’t really alive but existing on the genetic material of a host. I absolutely REFUSED to host it! And I isolated the FLU and I made them stay 6 inches apart no matter what, take that!
